The CEO and founder of Second Life, Philip Rosedale is stepping down from the executive role, as reported by Reuters. He will replace Mitch Kapor to serve as the Chairman of the board for Linden Lab, the parent company of Second Life, and will look after product management and strategy for the company.

This is what Philip had to say on his exit:

“This is my life’s work. I’m not going anywhere, and I’m still full-time on this, probably for the rest of my life.”

Second Life has been amongst issues related to its technology as well as others like closure of Ginko financial. Even after having 12.8 million residents, have not been able to engage users very well. If Second Life has to survive and grow, they need to give users better options to meet, entertain, communicate and do business with other people. The challenge, however, lies in replicating the real world in virtual environment while eliminating the nuances created by misleading individuals and organizations.
