Adobe Releases AIR for Linux; Joins Linux Foundation
Technology Monday, March 31st, 2008Adobe, in a move to advance Rich Internet Applications (RIA) to Linux, released an alpha version of Adobe AIR for Linux operating systems. This will allow Linux developers to build cross-platform, cross-browser Rich Internet Applications without writing a separate code.
Adobe also released an update to the Flex Builder 3 for Linux which is a framework for creating applications running on Adobe AIR. It has also joined the Linux Foundation to support the growth of RIA for Linux platform.
With Adobe Air, Flex Builder and Flash Player for Linux, Adobe is now providing complete platform for developing Rich Internet Applications that can be deployed seamlessly on different operating systems, browsers and desktops.
This move really shows that RIAs are the current and future trend of web development and many proprietary and open source platforms are available for development of Rich Internet Applications but time will only tell which RIA development platform will lead the pack.
