Zimbra Collaboration Suite 5.0 Released; Supports BlackBerry and Java Phones

Zimbra, provider of open source collaboration and communication software, has announced the availability of Zimbra Collaboration Suite 5.0 (ZCS 5.0).

The latest release includes support for BlackBerry, Java-enabled devices, Outlook 2007along with a new Web 2.0 messenger and task applications.

Broadly, these are the major new features included in ZCS 5.0:

  • E-mail, contacts, calendar, and task synchronization from Zimbra to Outlook 2007
  • ZimbraME, the downloadable application for Java-enabled mobile devices, allowing for real time access to email, calendar, tasks etc and server-side search.
  • Support for Zimbra on all BlackBerry, J2ME enabled devices, or any mobile web browser, including the Apple iPhone.
  • Web-based Instant Messaging which allows for multiple conversations and group chats
  • Ability to store any file from an e-mail in Zimbra Briefcase and easy sharing of Briefcase folders with others
  • Ability to share Inbox or other email folders with others and define read-only or complete access permission
  • Support for 15 local languages
