This post is just to show how an A-list blog can ignite fire across the blogosphere about a rumor or a mistake .  The all-powerful and popular TechCrunch posted about possible launch of Google to-do list product.  The post referenced a screenshot sent by one of the TechCrunch reader, Nicolas Hoizey, which showed a to-do list posted on the Official Google Docs Blog by Andrew Chang who is a Marketing Manager at Google.

Now see how the blogging world reacted to this post:

First of all, the post made it to Techmeme

Then the fire spreads to WebWorker Daily, Texas Startup Blog and Marketing Pilgrim

And the now the others also jump into the discussion and speculation.  So now we have a blog asking to stop the press for Google may be releasing something

The other calling the to-do list an imminent product from Google.

Then came the suggestions for Google to keep the to-do list simple.

And further announcements from other blogs like Gokubi, Industry Interactive Inc, and The Weekly Review.

This is just a sample of all the posts that would be featuring possibility, speculations and suggestions for the Google to-do list.  Now comes the end of this entire story cooked up in the blogosphere.  The post mentioned in the screenshot which started everything is deleted from the Google Docs Blog and Andrew Chang posts a new entry mentioning how he accidentally published his own weekend to-do list and how easy it is to create, edit and post a blog entry using Google Docs.

Does blogging need to be more thoughtful than just breaking news?  I think yes.
