Privacy Advocates Demanding Do Not Track Registry From FTC

A consumer group has demanded the Federal Trade Commission to implement a nationwide ‘Do Not Track’ registry on the lines of the ‘Do Not Call’ registry meant for prohibiting marketers from making unsolicited calls.

The ‘Do Not Track’ will enable the Internet users to prohibit advertisers from tracking and storing their online activities which is used for serving targeted advertisements to the users.

In response to the statement filed by the privacy groups with the FTC, the advertisers have said that self regulation is the best available solution for protecting the users’ privacy.

I agree with the views from advertisers’, however, an enforcement regarding the protection of data collected as well as strong regulations regarding usage of that data is important and must be implemented.
