Orkut Applications Go Live Silently

Good news for all Orkut fans and all the developers who were waiting for the applications to go live on Orkut. Orkut has silently made the applications live on Orkut profiles.

In all there are 19 applications which are active at the moment and available for adding to your profile. The process works much like Facebook apps and whenever you add a new application, it is displayed to your friends in the updates section.

We had covered some of the Orkut applications in the past but not all of them have gone live. It is possible that Orkut is rolling out applications in phases. Anyway, it is surely exciting and lots of fun to see these applications on Orkut.

Update from Orkut Blog: The Orkut apps are live in India only at the moment. The apps will be rolled out in other countries in the coming days.

Doesn’t the India specific roll out of Orkut apps looks like a deliberate and hasty move by Orkut to dilute the effect of MySpace India’s launch today.  Orkut just can’t afford to lose on India where it has the second largest user base after Brazil.
