Technology Monday, May 26th, 2008Hop-on has launched a new ultra-affordable mobile phone, Hop 1800, priced at $10
only. The Hop 1800 is available in the United States and works with over 40 wireless carriers including Hop-on’s own wireless service. The phone also works across Asia and Europe on GSM networks.
The Hop 1800 is a GSM phone which only does what phones are primarily supposed to do; make calls. There is no display screen in the Hop 1800 and it comes with a numeric keypad with Braille markings. It is a completely no-frills attached offering as it is a prepaid phone without any contracts which means you can start or stop using the cell phone without any restrictions.
The phone comes in two versions; the Hop 1800 Dual-band 850/1900 MHz for U.S. and the Hop 1800 900/1800 for Europe and Asia. To ensure better sound quality and reception, the phone uses Infineon chip sets. It weighs 77 grams and provides 4 hours of talk time and 150 hours of standby time which is good enough keeping its low price in consideration.
The phone which is being touted as “iPhone’s traveling companion” can be effectively used to save roaming charges while traveling in Europe and Asia as anyone can buy a local SIM card and start using the HOP 1800 mobile phone.
