Understanding business etiquette can be very challenging; knowing how to talk to people and how to deal with people can be very confusing. Should you shake with one or two hands? Should you bow? And should you ever kiss a woman when you say goodbye?

Even knowing whether you can eat the last biscuit can be difficult. Knowing whether or not you should have your phone switched on can also be confusing.

The global market place is available to everyone these days. Even small home based businesses selling on eBay can sell their products and services internationally. It’s not just large businesses which are interested in selling products internationally.

Businesses interested in international businesses will need to understand the impact that different customs can have on their life. You must put in the extra effort to respect the different countries cultures so that you can build a strong relationship.

If you ever travel abroad to visit your customers and contacts you might want to take a gift with you. However depending on the culture the giving of gifts may be slightly different. In china for example the recipient is normally very reluctant to take any gifts, however this is not them being rude. Actually you need to keep on insisting and trying to give it to them.

Knowing what to wear can also be difficult, different countries will wear different types of business clothing. In some countries for example it’s important that women cover themselves up when doing business. It’s important to know the customs of the country so that you can please the country you’re dealing with.

If you want to be an international business specialist then you will need to learn a lot about the international market place. Learn about the country you are visiting so that you don’t make any mistakes which could e very embarrassing or upsetting. For example never make an OK sign when you visit Brazil and you should never send flowers to any business contacts in Norway.

Becoming an International Business Specialist

Many universities will offer international business degrees however these will be a large investment of your time. There are also plenty of other methods which will work much quicker. For example the Protocol School of Washington have lots of seminars on international business etiquette.

You should also read everything that you can. There are loads of different books which you can read through which will give you an idea of how to run an international business.

When you have managed to get experience you can then research some of the companies in your local area to try and discover ones which are interested in expanding their operations overseas. Get in touch with them and offer your services.

As long as you appreciate and understand the customs of different countries and have great communication skills then you really shouldn’t have a problem becoming an international business specialist.
