Evolution Robotics has an interesting technology named ViPR (visual pattern recognition) which enables electronic devices the ability to detect and recognize complex visual patterns. I can just imagine a situation where you don’t need to type in anything; just click the picture of any object to see the related information in search results using your iPhone.

The demo video shows how a person from Evolution Robotics clicks the photo of “Finding Nemo” CD cover using the iPhone, sends the picture to the server and the server’s response with the information about “Finding Nemo” on YouTube, iTunes etc. If the Evolution Robotics team can build a demo on iPhone, I am sure Apple can and should develop this functionality in the iPhone. Apart from being a nice and interesting service for iPhone users, it will also boost Apple iTunes sales.

[youtube COqGIM5dkXw]

The ViPR technology has already been adopted by Japan’s KDDI Corporation which has now included the ER Search visual search engine (powered by ViPR) from Bandai Networks as a standard feature on its new Spring 2008 “au” camera phones and making it available for download for customers with older version “au” camera phones.
