Mobile phones have become an inevitable tool for communication and keeping up with information. With the availability of WAP and regular browsers on mobile phones, a lot of people consume Internet content while on the go. There are services using which you can create a new mobile site, convert your existing blog or website into a mobile site and earn money by monetizing your mobile site. By converting your blog or website to a mobile version, you can be sure of getting more visitors and be available for your readers even when they do not have access to a computer.

1. MoFuse: Perhaps the best and most advanced service to create a mobile site with RSS feed from your blog or website. MoFuse allows for monetizing your mobile website with Google Adsense For Mobile and AdMob. The basic version is free and the Pro version costs $3 per month. With basic version, you get 50% of the revenue generated by your mobile site whereas with the Pro version you keep 100% of the revenue. The Pro version also gives you an unlimited SMS widget which you can put your blog and have your mobile site’s link sent as an SMS to your visitors.

2. mobiSiteGalore: It is a free service, run with the help of donations, which lets you create new mobile websites with your own content which you can host with them or use your own domain name and hosting. The service is more focused on creating mobile version of standard personal and business websites and but you can also add the RSS feed of your blog to display posts. mobiSiteGalore provides mobile site templates, WYSIWYG editor, ability to insert advertisements from AdMob and Adsense and also allows for collecting payments from your mobile site through PayPal, Google CheckOut and Bango.

3. winksite: winksite lets you create 5 mobile sites for free. You can create a new mobile site or mobilize your existing blog or website using its RSS feed URL. Winksite also provides readymade applications like Notes, Forums, Guestbook, Chat etc. which can be added to your mobile site. They seem to have the option of monetizing the site through ads but details are not there. I have written to their support regarding this and will update the response here.

4. Mippin: Mippin provides a mobile publishing service named Mippin Maker. Using Mippin Maker you can convert your web site or blog into a Mippsite i.e. a mobile version of your site for free. Mippin also allows you to monetize your mobile site through advertisements from AdMob. Please read our previous coverage of Mippin Maker.

In my experience with these services, I found MoFuse and Mippin to be very user friendly and the total process from signing up to conversion of your blog and website into a mobile site will not take more than 10 minutes. mobiSiteGalore does provide some extra features as compared to other services but is slow and not very user friendly.

Google has announced the launch of image ads for mobile web pages. The new service is available in Australia, China, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, the UK, and the US. It means that the ads will only appear on pages accessed by the users on mobile devices from the above mentioned countries.

Functionally, the mobile image ads work like the image ads served on normal web pages but with reduced image size for smaller screen. The ads are contextually targeted and priced on PPC model. The ads are available in banner format only and Google has kept a limit of one image ad per page for mobile web pages.

The mobile publishers can now select the type of ad (text, image or both) to be displayed on their pages. Since there is one ad per page limit, if the publisher opts for displaying both types of ads, Google will automatically select the ad type to be served.

Have a look at the mobile image ad sizes or watch the demo video:
